Why casino buildings were often destroyed in Monte Carlo?

Beautiful legends tell us that modern gamblings appeared in a beautiful and luxurious casino of Monte Carlo. But local residents exactly know that such reasoning is wrong. The first gambling houses were opened one by one in different buildings that in turn were demolished quite soon. The reasons of such actions are rather interesting.

The government of Monaco had to plant olive and lemon trees on the most part of country territory to create a prosperous state. The sale of that fruit brought a good income due to which Monaco managed to develop. All gamblings were held in seaport bars then where sailors had a rest at their leisure time. Attempts to open the casino in other places were unsuccessful as those buildings were situated far from the city center that was too uncomfortable.

In 1861 «Champs Elysees Alberti» casino was founded but the lack of budget money stopped the construction. In a year the building was demolished and rebuilt only in three years. The casino survived more than 10 years after what was destroyed again as it appeared to be too tiny. For the third time the casino was demolished because of defects the construction had. An architect Charles Garnier managed to build the most popular Monte Carlo casino only on the fourth try.
