Great card successes of Gerolamo Cardano

The medieval mathematician Gerolamo Cardano lived in Italy at the beginning of the 16th century. He was the most talented scientist who was seriously engaged in algebra studies and started learning the mathematical analysis. Nowadays Cardano is called one of the first scientists who began studying the Arabic mathematical experience. Earlier nobody was involved in it and scientists seldom communicated because of wars though the Arab algebra was much more developed than European.

But not only scientific achievements made Gerolamo Cardano well-known. He was a venturesome person and often beat his friends in various gamblings. Cardano was the first who pointed out that mathematical methods could become extremely effective for gamblers. Cardano reflected his practical experience together with theoretical basis in a creation called "Book on Games of Chance". It is worth mentioning that it is the first work on the theory of probability, which at that time was incredibly popular.

Cardano also played chess with pleasure and succeeded in it. But soon he became interested in astrology and even calculated the date of his death. To justify that sad prediction the scientist did everything possible and died from hunger that specified day.
