Dice cheating was severely punished

Bones is a well-known gambling which is not so popular nowadays in comparison to times it used to be earlier. However, there were a lot of people wishing to play dice in the middle ages. Special competitions aimed on identifying the best in this or that region were held for them. From time to time it was possible to break a good jackpot at a game table. Swindlers also hunted for huge prizes. Mostly they cheated in England but from time to time went on tours across other European countries.

So what swindlers could undertake to beat their opponents? The answer is rather simple-they used special bones with a displaced center of gravity. Thus, the player knew how bones would land on and could make right bets. That technology appeared in the early 17th century and in a few decades conquered the United Kingdom.

Unfortunately, such technology was mainly used by casino representatives. Due to defective bones the staff of the casino significantly increased they odds against gamblers and minimized players’ chances to win. A special inspection for swindlers detection and castigation was introduced. However, casino owners managed to deceive even the inspection. They simply employed a person who swallowed bones with the displaced center of gravity when inspectors came.
