A roulette captured the winner of chess tournament

There are many cases in the gambling history when any dispute was solved with the help of a roulette or dice. The help of a casino is usually used in a case when classical ways of defying the winner come to an end in a draw. The experience confirms that the roulette helps to solve all issues quickly without gossips.

The Lucerne chess match in 1983 had to identify the strongest one among two players – Robert Huebner and Vasily Smyslov. The main party ended with an equal score. Additional parties were played according to the chess tournaments rules. However, they didn't bring a desired result. A serious question how to define the strongest player if both ones showed the highest game class came to mind of championship organizers.

It was necessary to use the roulette to solve such dispute. As a result it was defined that Vasily Smyslov had red and Huebner black pockets on a wheel. It was a surprise, but right after the first spin the ball got to a green "Zero" and therefore it was necessary to rotate the roulette once again. For the second time the ball stopped on a red color. Considering it Vasily Smyslov was declared the winner and won all owing rewards.
