The producer of slots was accused of gambler's failures

Austria is among a small number of countries where there are practically no restrictions and especially bans on slots. They are located practically everywhere – in shops and cafes, on outdoor playgrounds and gas stations. There is also quite elaborate legislation regarding slots in this country. However it didn't prevent the unlucky player to win a court case against such a giant of slot production as Novomatic Company.

The luckless gambler lost more than 800 thousand euros in a casino within four years. That impressive sum was left at Dolphin’s Pearl and Book of Ra slots that were produced by the biggest in this sphere Novomatic Company. However, the player decided to return not only lost money, but also the amount of moral compensation for his losses instead of just stopping the game. Together with a good lawyer he sued against Novomatic and accused the company of being gambling addicted. The claimant managed to prove in the court that he lost his self-control playing slots. A medical certificate from the mental hospital proving that the player really had very dangerous gambling addiction was presented in the materials of the case.

It was a great surprise that the court supported the player, and obliged Novomatic Company to pay the compensation of 440 thousand euros. Of course the gambler didn’t return the whole sum of money but still was satisfied with the result. However, the representatives of Novomatic appealed against the court's decision in hope to reverse an unfair judgment of the trial court.
