Biography Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth was born on July 16, 1964, in the family of a professor, a university lecturer. He is the eldest of five children, who were brought up in his family. The player’s native city is Madison, Wisconsin (the USA). Phil’s father sincerely wanted his son to be successful in school. Hellmuth finished school with honors, and went to the University of Wisconsin. It was there, where he got acquainted with poker. Since then, the interest in learning began fading, Phil’s thoughts were turned to increasing his bankroll. First, he spent the whole weekends in Las Vegas, then began going there more often. As a result, not finishing several years of studying, Hellmuth left university, and began building his professional poker career.

In 1987, he began participating in poker tournaments, but for several years, he held a place in the top five. The victory came to him in 1989, when he won the first gold bracelet of the World Series of Poker. This allowed him to become an unofficial champion of poker, because he won the main event of the year. At that time, he was the youngest winner of the competition. In 1993, the player managed to get three bracelets, the winning games took place almost at the same time. Then he regularly won the final tables of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), that’s why there are 13 bracelets in his collection now.

In 1990 the player married Catherine Hellmuth, the family brings up two sons. Phil’s spouse supports her husband's career, she attends almost all the competitions. She also plays poker, and in 2005, even participated in the women's tournament of the World Series of Poker.
