The fifth suit in poker

The fifth suit in poker

An interesting case took place in the history of world poker when card producers tried to change the game radically. It happened when in 1937 the Americans decided to create the fifth suit, because four already existing ones seemed to be not enough for them. Due to the fifth suit it would be possible to extend the amount of cards in packs that had to make poker even more fascinating game.

After some deliberation it was decided that the "suit of green eagles" had to become this fifth color. Such symbol is liked by both Americans and British. However, the players did not take this innovation, the game with five colors seemed to be quite not interesting for them. After a while, the demand for cars decks with the fifth color fell below zero. As a result the producers had to refuse this idea.

By the way, players were right having decided to ignore the fifth color. The matter is that this situation significantly reduces the probability to win and the possibility to collect royal flash comes to zero. The statistical data shows that more than 2,5 million combinations can be made of a 4-cards deck of 52 cards and the chance to collect royal flash reaches 0,000154%. It is a critically low figure, so poker players can be really proud of such event.
