Poker game decided the fate of the Faroe Islands

When the world found out about poker, the game soon became incredibly popular on all the continents. It was simply played by everyone who had such a right in different states. The various disputes which couldn't be resolved in another way were solved with the help of poker. For instance, a very famous case occurred when the mayor of one of New Mexico town was chosen among two candidates gained an equal number of votes, having played poker.

The similar case happened in Norway. Many centuries ago the Faroe Islands belonged to Norway. However nowadays this part of the state is absent on the modern map. The reason is rather simple- the king of Norway lost the Faroe Islands to Denmark king in an honest poker dual. Despite the indignation of ordinary residents the card debt had to be implicitly repaid even then. Considering it, the Norwegian king had to sign the document according to which the Faroe Islands were united to the Danish kingdom.

As a result, a group of lawyers from Norway, who found out about this story decided to defend the right of their motherland for that territory. Several claims were sued in order to retrieve the Faroe Islands to a legal owner. However all attempts were unsuccessful. The document that devolved the islands to Denmark followed all the rules, so legal basis for the return didn’t exist.
