What for the emblem of the producer is reflected on the ace of spades?

Perhaps, everyone who has ever played cards asked himself such an interesting question at least once. Indeed, any good and even trading card deck always contains one card – the ace of spades where the emblem of the producer is located. Such tradition has been existing during several centuries. The history of its origin is very amazing.

At a turn of 16 and 17 centuries when card games were just getting the popularity many countries of the world have introduced a so-called card tax to a turnover. It was one of those numerous cases when money in treasury was made of air because people were ready to pay for their favorite entertainments. British were so fond of cards that they did not resent, but took it for granted.

The card tax law claimed that all card producers had to pay a certain sum of money for each pack. As a result the deck with already paid card tax was marked with a special emblem on the ace of spades. In Great Britain this duty existed up to 1960. Over time the tax was liquidated but the tradition remained.
