How poker could sink people

If you study the history of poker bit by bit it will be possible to say hardily that the game participated practically in all historical processes. Gambling has influenced the life of modern humanity tremendously having varied the vital activity of many countries.

In 1800 poker was greatly developed. This card game was incredibly interesting for adventurers who were sailing the waters of America in a search of better life. To spend lots of free time interestingly many sailors played poker. The majority of players didn’t have high moral principles and preferred an unfair game. The term "bluff" didn’t exist then so the pokerists of the 19th century were real swindlers. There was no opportunity to cope with it as the players didn’t obey any law.

During long sailings the mariners had no money therefore they often used other valuable things including human life as bets. Besides, due to the unfair game different conflicts and quarrels at the end of which the winners throw losers overboard occurred. Thus the sailors were often drowned not because of shipwreck, but of the unsuccessful poker game.
