Poker in the Wild West

Poker in the Wild West

Poker as popular card game appeared in the world for a long time ago. The background of this gambling goes back to the end of 19 century. The first poker players were from Texas where they lived on their ranches. An interesting story that has become very popular among all gamblers is connected with it.

Wild Bill was one of first poker players. He lived in the State of South Dakota, in the small town of Deadwood. The rules of a fair game were unknown to Wild Bill therefore he often cheated. Cheating in poker wasn’t punishable, and this fact made the honest participants of the game very upset. Having noticing the cheating of Wild Bill, Jack McCall decided to put an end to this injustice. In early August, 1876 McCall shot Wild Bill, who at that time was known to be the poker legend.

The cruel murder of Bill happened right during the game. McCall was so annoyed with player’s deception that he couldn’t restrain his anger. The combination consisting of two black eights and two aces were in Bill’s hands. Since then the combination of these 4 cards is called «Dead man's hand». Later, people started to call some combinations in honor of different events that have memorable stories.
