Five months victory fight

Five months victory fight

Modern poker tournaments do not last more than few hours, but it was not always. Several decades ago, the competition between poker professionals could last up to several days.  The brightest confirmation is the competition between Nick Dandolos and Johnny Moss thattook place in 1949. One game between these professionals lasted five months, and during the process the players stopped playing just to have a sleep and snack. The organizers and the audience of that competition were sure that the game was accompanied by all known card hands and combinations. The advantage was on the side of one and then of another player.

After such a long struggle Johnny Moss managed to win. He won 4 million dollars, but the competition was appreciated not by a money prize but by the tenacity and will to win those players showed. By the way, after this five-month game had attracted so much attention from players and spectators, the decision to create world poker championship was taken. The competition became the forerunner of WSOP, and Johnny Moss won in this international tournament three times.

One more case when players could not identify the strongest one during the week occurred in the further history of the World Series of Poker games. It happened in 2006, when the finalists were competing for a prize of $ 10 million.
