In the early 20th century, poker was just gaining the popularity; there were only a few professional players. Despite this, the tournaments were quite interesting, and many people wanted to take part in them. The special popularity was gained by a poker tournament which took place in one of New York casinos in 1919. Arnold Rothstein took not the last place among the organizers. He had the glory of the criminal and dangerous gangster but it didn’t interfere him to play poker.

The sensational crime of Arnold Rothstein was his conspiracy with the players of "Chicago White Sox" team. He paid rather huge sum of money to a baseball team so they purposely had to play badly and lose the competition of a World Series. Such scene became widely known in a sport world. Rothstein had many enemies and ill-wishers that suffered from his fraud. As a result Arnold was killed right during the poker party. Most likely, the fraudster categorically refused to pay the card debt so his own life became the price in a result.
