Low

Low

2-7 Lowball, also known as Lowball Deuce to Seven, or Kansas City Lowball, or California Lowball is nothing else, as a kind of Draw Poker. Like its "elder brother", Lowball is not very popular and it is uncommon in online poker rooms. It differs from Draw Poker by the thing that winning combinations are considered to be the weakest in terms of standard poker. The most unbeatable combination in 2-7 Lowball is an off-suit number of cards from Deuce to Seven (2♠3♦4♣5♥7♣), that is why this kind of poker received its numerical adjunct in the name. Also, it has to be remembered that the combination power of 2-7 games has some differences from low-games. In Lowball 2-7 Ace is always considered to be a high card. The following partial list shows 2-7Lowball combinations in a descending order of precedence (the hand, one can seldom win at number 16, and there is a “candy” under  number 1 ):

1. 7, 5, 4, 3, 2

3. 8, 6, 4, 3, 2

As for the number of possible exchanges of cards in one deal, in addition to variations of "Single Draw," in which each player has the opportunity to exchange the cards once, there is also 2-7 Lowball with a triple exchange.

There are from two to six people in Lowball. The start of the game exists in two versions: in the first one, each player makes a forced bet (ante) to the pot before the deal, in the second one – on the basis of Hold'em, two players, left of the dealer, make the small and big blinds. Each player gets 5 cards face down during the deal. After the first action round, the players can exchange from one to five cards from the hand for the cards from the deck. To win, you have to have the strongest hand at the table.

Like many other versions of poker, 2-7 Lowball is divided into three types:

  • fixed limit – there is a specified betting limit in each game and each round;
  • no limit – the player can bet any size;
  • pot limit – when the player cannot bet higher than the pot size.
